Welcome to the website of fantasy author Joshua Palmatier.

The city of Amenkor on the Frigean Coast of Wrath Suvane is the setting for the fantasy novel The Skewed Throne and its two sequels, The Cracked Throne and The Vacant Throne. Here you can find interesting little tidbits about the books, the author, and upcoming projects. There are also links to other websites of interest related to the writing of science fiction and fantasy, as well as to author friends of Joshua Palmatier. If you want more detailed information about the author or the daily progress of writing novels, check out his Live Journal. There's also a link for conferences and conventions Joshua will be appearing at, as well as the time and location of signings. All of those links appear on the right of the screen, above the incredibly cool dragon.
Many of you have been waiting patiently for the next Joshua Palmatier book to hit the shelves . . . well, it already has. In fact, there are two books out now. At the request of the marketing department at my publisher, it was decided to release my newest series under a pseudonym, with the idea being that this would help increase my audience. I was asked to keep the new pseudonym quiet until the first book was on the shelf, but that's happened. The new series, set in the same world as the Throne of Amenkor trilogy, but with completely different characters, on a different continent, at a different time period in history, is called the Well of Sorrows series, released under the pseudonym Benjamin Tate.
The first book is called Well of Sorrows:
The second book is titled Leaves of Flame and was released this past January:
I'm hard at work on the third book, Breath of Heaven, as we speak! So go forth and order! And pass the word on to your friends if you enjoyed the Throne of Amenkor series or are enjoying the new series. Word of mouth is the best notice a series can get.
In a fit of not having enough to do, I decided to try my hand at co-editing anthologies with my writerly friend Patricia Bray. The anthology After Hours: Tales from the Ur-bar, about a magical bar that travels through time, features stories set in our world at various periods in time, all set around a bar tended by Gilgamesh and involving a little twist of magic.
In addition, we have a new anthology coming to the shelves this coming March called The Modern Fae's Guide to Surviving Humanity. This one features stories of the fae and how they've learned to adapt and survive in our world, whether that means preying on the humans who have overrun it, or fitting in to our society, perhaps living right under our noses or in plain sight. In any case, check out both of anthologies. There are some really cool authors and great stories in each!
I'm happy to announce that a Throne of Amenkor short story involving Erick, with an appearance by Varis, Bloodmark, and the Mistress, has been released to the wilds in the anthology edited by Alma Alexander called River! The story itself is called "The River".
And don't forget the short story "Tears of Blood" in Beauty Has Her Way, edited by Jennifer Brozek! This short story is set in Amenkor, but not during the time of Varis or the Throne of Amenkor books. Instead, it's set during what I call the Plague Years, well before Varis and the Chorl come onto the scene. The anthology has hits the shelves! So you can now order it at your local bookstore!
Also, my short story Mastihooba has recently been published in the Apex anthology Close Encounters of the Urban Kind, also edited by Jennifer Brozek. This is a science fiction short story where the idea was to take an urban legend and give it an alien twist. You can find the anthology online at Apex, Amazon.com, or BN.com!
I got permission from my editor to post the first six chapters of my first novel, The Skewed Throne, the first book in the Throne of Amenkor series, over the course of six weeks. The idea is to give readers a chance to read a significant portion of the book to decide whether or not they might like the book, and hopefully entice them into buying the book as well. You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader (free download here) in order to read it, since it's a pdf file. I found that it wouldn't open in AOL, but it does open in Explorer. It seems to work on most browsers actually.
I'd appreciate it if you could post a link to this website in your own blog or website or on Facebook, to help promote the postings of the chapters. Thanks!
These are the actual page proofs from the book, if you're interested in seeing what those look like.

The German foreign language rights for the entire Throne of Amenkor trilogy have been sold to Lubbe and The Skewed Throne has been released in Germany under the new title "Die Assassine". Check out the awesome new cover art by F. Fiedler for the book here:
The Cracked Throne has also been released under the title "Die Regentin". Check it out! (Also done by the cover artist F. Fiedler.)
Also out now, The Vacant Throne in German, under the title "Die Kaempferin," which has the best cover art of all three of them in my opinion:
PS: All artwork on this site, including the cool dragon, is by artist Steve Stone (Skewed Throne, Cracked Throne), Larry Ronstat (Vacant Throne), or F. Fiedler (German edition of Skewed Throne, Die Assassine), except for the JBP logo at the top of the page. Check out more of all of the artist's artwork using the link under their names in the Interesting Links location.
The JBP logo at the top of the page is done by friend and artist Ariel Guzman. Link to his Live Journal in the Interesting Links location.
Also, this webpage would not have been possible without help from a friend and fellow author Jennifer Dunne. Check out her website using her link in the Interesting Links location.
