We tread the thin line between experimental speculative fiction and avant-garde literary fiction. We are currently reading for issue #24, for which we will pay œ10 ($15) per 1,000 words on publication for first English Language rights. Familiarity with the magazine is strongly advised. For sample copy prices please consult the [web] page on Availability and Ordering. Enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope for the return of your manuscript if it is not accepted. We recommend two International Reply Coupons (IRCs) plus disposable copy for non-UK submissions. One US$ is an acceptable (and cheaper!) alternative to IRCs. If you wish us to reply by e-mail, send disposable copy and no return postage. We are unable to reply to writers who do not send return postage or provide a valid e-mail address. E-mail submissions will not be considered. Illustrations of stories are commissioned, and artists are invited to send samples of their work for consideration. From BBR #24, payment will be œ20 ($30) on publication per black and white full page used. We aim to reply to all submissions within two months, but sometimes circumstances beyond our control may cause us to take longer. Please enclose an SAE if enquiring about a manuscript's status. No responsibility can be accepted for loss or damage to unsolicited material, howsoever caused. (Chris Reed, 30 March 1998) [from website at http://www.bbr-online.com/magazine/ guidelines.html] =LC-39= [New biannual print mag, literary SF to 2000 wds, pays 1-2 cents/wd. on accept.] Matthew Walls, Editor P. O. Box 9307, Baltimore, MD 21228 E-mail: wallsm@cadmus.com Premiers in spring 1999. =LC-39= is committed to sf as literature. We are a magazine for the sf writer. As such, =LC-39= is more akin to an academic literary journal than the traditional "pulp": it is printed on 70-pound paper stock with a laminated four-color cover. In addition, =LC-39= has a circulation of 1000 and will publish 96+ pages/issue twice a year. What is =LC-39=? As you may have guessed, LC-39 is an old NASA term for launch complex 39, which is the complex at the Kennedy Space Center where all of the Apollo moon missions were launched. Why launch complex? An integral part of =LC-39='s mission is to offer a forum to new and unpublished writers. Why? As a reader, I feel that much of mass sf has grown stale, so, as an editor, I am looking to introduce new voices to the genre. Wants hard/soft SF. =LC-39= is looking for intelligent, imaginative, character-driven stories with scientifically plausible plots. New and unpublished writers are encouraged. I will not be taking articles at the moment. Perhaps in the future. I will take art, however. The cover supports a four-color illustration or painting, preferable in the size ratio of 1:2 wide to tall (the cover art for the 1st two issues is already acquired). Anything black and white would work for the inside (photos or illustration), but it would have to be really good to get in. To 2000 words; pays 1-2 cents/wd., upon acceptance. Sample $6, subscription $12/yr.
