Box 835, Springfield, LA 70462 Editor: Chris Bevard Subm to: blooddoll33@angelfire.com =Flicker= is the upcoming horror magazine/anthology from Blood Doll Press, published bi-annually. We are looking for intense, original, disturbing fiction of 5000 words or less. Nothing will be considered too taboo (with the exception of child abuse/sex). No =gratuitous= gore or sex; I realize that small doses of both have their place from time to time. Simultaneous submissions are OK. No reprints. SNAIL MAIL: Send a disposable copy of your manuscript, a SASE, and a short bio to the address above. EMAIL: Paste the story into the body of your message and send to blooddoll33@angelfire.com The payment for stories accepted will be 1/4 cent per word plus one contributor's copy. First issue is slated for an October release. No art is being accepted at this time. [DarkEcho, 5 Aug 1999] MARKET INFORMATION =Del Rey= According to a writer on sff.net, everyone authors have known and worked with at Del Rey Books have been terminated save Shelly Shapiro, Steve Saffel and Ku-Yuo Liang. Two people were reported as being let go here last week. But apparently, everyone received notice after the July 4th holiday, and authors were called. There were varying reasons for each person's situation, apparently. Some of the terminations are said to be as a result of restructuring and others for "cause." Another writer says, "The survivors I've heard of are Chris Levis, Anh Hoang, Kuo-yu Liang, Shelly Shapiro and Steve Saffel." There was speculation that Del Rey may not survive as a separate imprint, since this leaves only one editor for the Del Rey line. [sff.publishing.news, 15 Jul 99, 15 Aug 99] =FrightNet= Ivan Graves, Senior Editor of =FrightNet=, sent the following: =FrightNet= Online Magazine Official Notice of Closure "It is with sincere regret that FrightNet Online Magazine (www.frightnet.com) is hereby permanently closed to future submissions, and that the previous issue (#13) is to have been the final issue for the publication. Cited as the major contributor to the magazine's closing is time." [sff.writing.response-times, 17 Aug 99] =Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine= A writer on sff.net got this information in a rejection slip from =MZBFM=: "I have enough stories this length for the next two years; and type face is notoriously inelastic. Next time, try something shorter." The story in question's length? 4000 words. So it sounds like =MZBFM= *really* wants shorter stuff. [sff.writing.response-times, 10 Aug 99] =Papyrus= A writer on sff.net got the following note from =Papyrus=: "Due to various financial concerns, =Papyrus= is undergoing some restructuring. As such, unfortunately we cannot accept any fiction at this time, no matter how excellent it might be. I'm afraid you just caught us at a bad time." [sff.writing.response-times, 7 Aug 99] =Pulp Eternity= Editor Steve Algieri, of Eternity Press, says, "I'll begin reading shorts in January for a special online/print/media project that will merge the online site with the print magazine starting January 1, 2001. That does not mean that I'm going to web format as I'm just about to sign a national distribution deal for [=Pulp Eternity=] and the next issue is at the printer's now. "Stories will be 2001 words or less and will pay 5 cents a word. Note that I'm not looking for Millennium stories, rather this will be an open theme in a platform presentation no one has done yet. I'll have more details as it comes closer as two publishers seem intent on stealing my ideas. The website remains the definitive source of Eternity goings-on. "As for open themes, I'm only reading for the cat issue at this point." [sff.writing.response-times, 9 Aug 99] ==End of CALLIHOO newsletter for 24 August 1999==
