Fantasy, Folklore & Fairytales

Payment, $5 - $15 OP
Full Guidelines

Subjects will be posted 3 (three) months in advance in the magazine. We will accept submissions up to 3 (three) months in advance. Please be sure to specify which theme is used.

FF&F is interested in publishing quality fiction, non-fiction and art with a fantasy, folklore and/or fairytale background. We feel the subjects of fantasy, folklore and fairytales intermingle, but can also stand separately. Fantasy deals with things that can't quite be. Folklore is based on myth and legend. Fairytales span the reaches of time, creating parodies of life. First and foremost we want to be entertained.

Articles and Reviews must deal with art, books, games, history, movies, or other publications that fall under our subject headings. These do not necessarily have to match the monthly themes, but are better if they do. They should not be in excess of 1,500 words. Articles and reviews pay $5 per accepted manuscript upon publication.

Short Stories (including the Mother Goose Archives) must follow the theme per issue. Word count acceptable is 1,500 to 7,500. Shorter pieces may be published. If the story is an excerpt from a novel, please note this in your cover letter. But, the story must be able to "stand alone." If you have illustration, that's wonderful. If not, we may contract illustration for the piece. After all, we do print art, too.

The Strange Picture Contest will be interactive with the webpage at www.Fantasytoday.com. You must access the submission form through the webpage. In 500 words or less, write a story or poem about the picture, and remember it must fall under the heading of fantasy, folklore and/or fairytales. The monthly theme does not apply to this section, but if you can work it in, then kudos! Remember that all submissions will be posted on the website for you to vote on throughout the month. The top 2 readers' favorites and the Editor's Choice will be published in the next month's issue. It will be interesting to see if they agree!!

Spellbound

Spellbound is a new print magazine from Eggplant Productions. It is fantasy/dark fantasy/thriller in genre, and is aimed at 9-14 year olds. We accept original work and reprints, and at this time pay $5 and 2 copies for both poetry and fiction under 2500 words. We are hoping to someday be able to raise that rate if things go well.
We publish quarterly, and issues will have a seasonal feel. Also, each issue has a feature creature, and stories/poems pertaining to that creature, though not required, are welcome. Our spring issue (deadline Feb 15th 2000) features goblins, our summer issue (deadline May 15th) features dragons, and our fall issue (deadline Aug 15th) will feature mer, or water folk.
We also sponsor a contest in every issue, revolving around the issue's feature creature. The best poem, story, and artwork (about the creature) by kids under 16 will be published, and the winners will receive a year's free subscription.

Further guidelines can be found on our website.Spellbound

Fiction subs go to: Spellbound Fiction
