No reprints or E-mail subm. Deadline 3 Jan 2001.] James Lowder The Book of All Flesh 15120 West Mayflower Court New Berlin, WI 53151 Queries: gawain@execpc.com =The Book of All Flesh= is an anthology of original, creator-owned zombie fiction set for release in June 2001 by Eden Studios, publishers of the =All Flesh Must Be Eaten= role-playing game. The anthology will be released under the =All Flesh Must Be Eaten= banner, though fiction need not be tied directly to the game. All works submitted for the collection should have the living dead as a central element. Tone and setting are fairly open. We welcome zombie horror tales in the Romero mold, as well as living dead stories framed in SF, pulp hero, and historical settings. Writers can submit works that use the published All Flesh campaign settings. (Any such works chosen for publication will require a modified contract, but will remain copyrighted in the author's name.) We are not likely to buy sword & sorcery fantasy tales featuring the undead. Gore and violence are acceptable, but such elements should serve a clear purpose in the narrative. Writers are encouraged to review the =All Flesh Must Be Eaten= role-playing game for ideas. Other zombie fiction anthologies of interest include the two =Book of the Dead= collections edited by Skipp and Spector; =The Mammoth Book of Zombies=, edited by Stephen Jones; =The Ultimate Zombie=, edited by John Betancourt; and =Zombie=, edited by Peter Haining. For films, check out the =Living Dead= trilogy of George Romero, =Return of the Living Dead=, =Zombie=, and even the Bela Lugosi classic, =White Zombie=. Remember, however, we are looking for originality in your approach to the subject matter. The nitty-gritty: Length: 3,000 to 7,000 words. May consider longer or shorter works with prior approval. Deadline: Wednesday, January 3rd, 2001. Rights: 1st world in English Payment: 3 to 5 cents/word. Paid within 30 days of publication. Not accepting reprints. Send hardcopy submissions to: James Lowder, The Book of All Flesh, 15120 West Mayflower Court, New Berlin, WI 53151 No e-mail submissions, please. Pays 1/2 cent/wd on pub. No reprints or sim subs. E-mail subm only.] G. Durant Haire, Editor DarkWithZine@netscape.net So that visitors, potential subscribers, and submitters could get a feel for =Darkness Within=, I've created its online counterpart, =Darkness Within: Discarnate=. =Discarnate= will feature a new story each month from the best of the horror small press. Guidelines For =Darkness Within: Discarnate= I'm looking for previously unpublished horror/dark fantasy fiction from 1,500 to 3,000 words. I prefer stories that have a supernatural element, but will gladly consider those that don't. No poetry. No serial killers. No gratuitous violence or sex. Payment will be 1/2 cent per word for First Serial Rights, exclusive to =Darkness Within: Discarnate= for one month. Stories will not be archived, nor published in the print version of =Darkness Within=. Payment will be in US funds upon publication. No simultaneous submissions. E-mail submissions only. All submissions must be in standard manuscript format and contain a short author bio, and list of previous publishing credits, if any. "Discarnate Submission" must appear in the subject line. Paste submission in the body of the e-mail, no attachments. Be sure to double space at the beginning of paragraphs and indicate Italics as follows: *horror* E-mail submissions to: DarkWithZine@netscape.net "Discarnate Submission" must appear in the subject line [http://redrival.com/darkwithin/discarnate.html] =Eotu Ezine= [Bimonthly webzine, themed (SF/F/H mostly) to 3000 wds, pays 1/2 cent/wd.($5.00 min), no sim subm, reprints okay. E-mail subm only.] Larry Dennis, Editor submissions@clamcity.com http://www.clamcity.com/eotu.html Submission guidelines updated July, 2000 =Eotu Ezine= publishes short stories, poetry and artwork without regard to genre, though the editor's taste runs to experimental fiction, hypertext fiction, sci-fi, horror and fantasy. We like experimental styles of telling stories, new forms, new exploration, in addition to well written content. THEMES AND GENRES OF UPCOMING ISSUES: AUGUST 2000: All genres welcome, no theme (note that as of July 1st, this issue is about 90% full). OCTOBER 2000: Horror. We are doing a special horror issue with no special theme at this time. Horror is a broad genre, really, of many different sub-genres and we'll probably sample a little of each. DECEMBER 2000: Theme will be love stories. All genres welcome, but most likely romance, sci-fi and fantasy. FOR ALL ISSUES: Stories should be short, not more than about 3000 wds. Poems shouldn't be much longer than about 30 lines. Artwork, who knows. Our tastes run the same here as for fiction, but whatever you're into, I'm sure we're into also. Please send stories and poems preferably in the body of an e-mail. Art can be sent as an attachment. TO: submissions@clamcity.com If your work is on a web page, we don't mind going there to look at it. Especially artists with a variety of work they'd allow us to choose from, and especially hypertext writers. Anyone with a web site, send us your URL. Whatever works. The point here is that we want to showcase what talented, crafted, writers and artists are creating. We don't want to set limits at this point in the game. Who knows, you're probably doing something we've never thought of. So how could we describe it here? We buy One Time Online Rights, which means your work will be published in one issue of =Eotu Ezine=. That issue will remain on the main site for 2 months and then archived for 1 year. Work that has been published elsewhere is okay. (Let us know when and where). We prefer not to receive simultaneous submissions. At this time response is in about a month. (If you send something now for the December issue response could be 4-5 months.) We ask that during the two months after publication in =Eotu= you do not allow your work to be published new elsewhere online, except for your personal web site. During the time your story is archived (after your first two months on =Eotu=) you may get it published anywhere you can. Payment is 1/2 cent per word for any story ($5.00 minimum), $5.00 for any poem or artwork published, $15.00 for a 'page' of art - usually 5-10 pieces. A check will be snail mailed to you on acceptance. Any questions, concerns or comments? editor@clamcity.com. [http://www.clamcity.com/submissionspage.html] =The Goblin Muse= [Webzine, H/DF to 2500 wds. Pays $10/story. E-mail subm only. No sim or mult subm. Reprints okay.] Editor: Carole Nomarhas E-mail: submissions@goblinmuse.com http://www.goblinmuse.com/ Submission Guidelines updated 27th June, 2000 I am currently being flooded with short-shorts, so I am buying very, very selectively in the shorter lengths (under 800 words). Fiction: to 2,500 words, will consider longer but please query first. Particularly interested in horror parodies and stories dealing with writers/writing. Always interested in great horror/DF regardless of theme (excepting child abuse and/or meaningless violence and bloodshed). Reprints welcome. No multiple submissions. No simultaneous submissions. Payment $10US flat fee. Non-fiction: articles on writing and reviews of horror books may be considered. However, I cannot pay for non-fiction, and dislike the idea of accepting work for no pay. Artists: I am interested in giving space to a feature artist from time to time, contact me if you wish to know more. Send submissions (no artwork) embedded in email, or as a txt. attachment to submissions@goblinmuse.com Attention: Carole Nomarhas Reply times will be as prompt as possible. Query if you have not heard back within three weeks. The Goblin gently suggests that when sending in your submission you do not begin your cover letter with "Hey"; you do not make glaring spelling mistakes in the cover letter, and you try to make some effort to get at least one of my names right. [http://www.goblinmuse.com/sub.htm] =Muse It Webzine= [Monthly webzine, spec fic to 2000 wds. Pays 1 cent/wd. ($5 min $20 max.). Submit online with form.] Ritch, Editor http://www.museit.com/submit.htm (use form to submit mss.) http://www.museit.com/index.shtml 1. FICTION AND FACT: Any genre or style is ok as long as it is not racially or sexually motivated. That means no pornography and no literature promoting ideas of racism or bigotry. No gore for gore's sake. No children in sexual situations. I prefer speculative prose or stories with a strange twist . . . but others are considered. Keep the length to 2000 words or less. =Muse It= will pay $.01 US per word for submissions published. Minimum payment is $5.00 US, maximum payment is $20.00 US. Any submission purchased buys exclusive 31 day publishing rights. During this time the prose purchased may not be displayed on any other site. After the 31st day all rights revert to the author. Authors who cannot meet the exclusive publication requirement may publish at =Muse It= without payment. 2. POETRY: I accept poetry formed in any style but I prefer poetry with a lyrical quality, something with rhyme. Nobody writes rhyme anymore so if you send it you are all but guaranteed it will be accepted. 3. WILDERNESS SURVIVAL GUIDE: If you are interested in sending submissions for the WSG email editor@museit.com for more information. =Muse It= will pay $.01 US per word for submissions published. Minimum payment is $5.00 US, maximum payment is $20.00 US. Any submission purchased buys exclusive 31 day publishing rights. We also will retain the right to use the submission indefinitely, though the author may publish elsewhere. 4. MOVIE REVIEWS: Movies should be rated Fresh, Not Lame, Lame, or Foul. It will start with the name and MSRA rating, directors name and a list of major characters and actors. The first paragraph will briefly explain why the movie receives the rating you give it. The second paragraph will give a synopsis of the movie's plot. The third paragraph will be a Lesson Learned and will be only one sentence long. This should be the most memorable thing about the movie and can be either negative or positive. Ratings need to be given not for the movie alone but also for the movie's official website, if one exists. For example: If the movie is Fresh but the website is Foul, the rating in the review should reflect that by giving it, perhaps, a Not Lame rating. See MuseIt.Com to see it in action. 5. BOOK REVIEWS: I would like books to be rated similarly to movies, except the book's rating does not have to take into account a website because books usually do not have a website. However, if the author does have an official website I would like that website to be mentioned in the review and the reviewer's opinion of the website should be stated. Start with a list of major characters. The first paragraph will briefly explain why the book received the rating you gave it. The second paragraph will give a synopsis of the book's plot. The Third paragraph will be a Lesson Learned and will be only one sentence long. This should be the most memorable thing about the book and can be negative or positive. 6. LENGTH: Keep it to 2000 words or less. If you have something longer that you want posted then I will put the first 2000 word in the 'zine and then make the entire document available in a downloadable version. 7. AUTHOR'S INFORMATION: Remember to include your by-line with your submission. If you want a small picture included with your by-line please include that too. [http://www.goblinmuse.com/news.htm, 7 Jul 2000] =EOTU Ezine= Editor Larry Dennis has announced that =Eotu Ezine= is seeking short fiction, poetry and art for a special horror edition this October. There are no special themes, we will look at horror from all sub-genres. We want to see what's out there. EOTU IS A PAYING MARKET, though not by much, don't get excited. We pay 1/2 cent per word for fiction, $5.00 for poetry and art. Submissions should be sent to submissions@clamcity.com. Complete guidelines are available at http://www.clamcity.com/submissionspage.html =EOTU Ezine= is at http://www.clamcity.com/eotu.html =Galaxy Online= K. D. Wentworth says, "I sold a story to the new =Galaxy Online= yesterday. It's a humorous one titled "The Battle for Cassville." I'm very excited, because, not only do they pay well, they link to your webpage and Amazon and anywhere else your work can be found. This would help people who liked the story find and buy your book, a really cool idea. This actually makes the electronic publishing have advantages over print." "Do the math. At the high end of the spectrum-- 34,000 words and up-- it works out to less than three cents a word. My favorite quote from the S&S spokesperson: 'We're a traditional publisher.
