Rhonwen y Llysieuyddes's Persona Story

I credit two people with getting me interested in medieval music, folk songs, and ballads: Mistress Ælflæd of Duckford and Master Baldwin of Erebor. In early 1978 Ælflæd very kindly let a rank newbie learn the songs and sing with King's Chorus, let me attend her class on Child Ballads, and kindled a spark for that specific sort of music in a person who'd loved music all her life. Baldwin encouraged me no end, even sending me two tapes of him singing ballads, folksongs, SCA songs, and best of all, his own songs. I thank them for the joy I have received from this kind of music in the past thirty years. I've tried to pay forward, too: I've taught classes on ballads, I've sung whenever I can, and I've even made a CD so others can hear some of the songs I love. (Some of the songs from that CD are available, in mp3 format, at FilkArchive, if you'd like to hear them.)

I've written several songs, some to original tunes and some (in the best medieval tradition) to other tunes.

Don't Ever Love

Homecoming

Neville, or, The Ensorcelled Son

Of Two Unicorns

An Outlands Herald (An Artemisian Herald) (Baldwin chorded this one)

The Sea-Man

Wonderful Thing

Also a song which isn't mine, but which was written in the early days of the shire of am Mor Salann Fasach to commemorate Burro Creek I war.

Hastle Castle War Song by Ferelith MacDonald

I've been collecting folksongs and ballads (and SCA songs) for 30 years now. I'm making an index of my eight notebooks available here; as I get time, I'll upload words for those that are traditional (or those for which I've obtained permission to put online).

*I planned, at one time, to put together a songbook of my music with this title. I never did, but I still like the title. It references Broadside of a Bard, a songbook Master Baldwin of Erebor published of his music.
