Shakercon (a diminutive of Saltcon) was a one-day science fiction and fantasy mini-convention held in May of 1978. Several SCA members attended and put on demonstrations of fighting and dancing, as well as having a table and displays.

Fighting Demo at Shakercon
Fighting demo at Shakercon. Michael the Lucky vs. Charles of Galway. Gallowglass marshalling. Cormak na Gunn vs. Lord Robert de Spencer. Again, Gallowglass is marshalling.

From left to right, Gallowglass, Jerilyn of Vert Silva (in Shakercon tee shirt), Lady Ferelith MacDonald, Charles of Galway (getting either into or out of armor). The banners in the back are Jerilyn's and Rhonwen's. Michael the Lucky gifted the Hastle Castle ladies with tee shirts. They say "Charlemagne's Angels" (a takeoff, of course, on a TV show of that era) and have their "flavors" on the sleeves. From left to right, Ferelith (strawberry), Rhonwen (chocolate), Michael, and Jerilyn (vanilla).

Meistres Rhonwen welcomes others who were there in the early days adding their reminiscences--after 30 years, her memory is a bit faulty, and much information has disappeared in the fog. E-mail her at julia.west@REMOVETHIS.sff.net.
