About Star Trek: S.C.E. #66: Many Splendors:

"Although the bulk of the story told in Many Splendors is set aboard the Enterprise instead of the da Vinci, knowing more about Gomez's years aboard the flagship allows for an even greater understanding of the officer she is now. It is not as if Gomez's background hasn't been explored before in SCE - it has numerous times - but knowing even more about where she has been and what she has experienced in her life and Starfleet career just further enhances the readers appreciation for her character."
---Jacqueline Bundy, Trek Nation

About Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Blackout:

"Once again I find myself reading a prequel novel. It's funny how these things tend to arrive together on my reading pile. And for the second time I find myself enjoying a prequel. Okay, maybe I don't set the bar as high with a Buffy book as I did with the Dune book, but the author still had to deliver, and he did.

"This is bad boy Spike, but despite that you still find yourself somewhat on his side in the book despite his evil nature. But that's not to say you do not feel for Nikki Wood as the sassy New York Slayer with the cool long black coat. She is a great character and her demise, although inevitable, is handled sensitively and with dignity."

---Steve, The Eternal Night

NEW "Blackout is an utter joy. [DeCandido] nails life in '70s New York so well you can almost see the steam rising from the subway grilles. The dialogue is pure Shaft, filled with bucktloads of 'you digs?', hilarious quotes ('Whatchoo tyin' me up for, bitch?') and funky nicknames ('What's happenin', Big Mamma Jamma?') Nikki suits her calling so well you'll wish you got to see more of her in the TV show; she even teaches Spike a move or two while they play cat-and-mouse through the city."

---Jayne Nelson, SFX, November 2006

NEW "DeCandido lived in New York at the time Blackout is set, and whilst this is no in-depth, socio-political commentary on the city's urban culture, you'll learn far more here than by renting out Shaft on DVD. ... Blackout is, nonetheless, a strong and vibrant addition to Pocket's increasingly experimental Buffy range."
