Could clay actually degrade craters? This is very speculative, and probably wrong. Still, if complex pre-biotic processes are going on in the Callistan surface, over millions of years it's not clear how such effects would change the landscape. Clay is built up in layers, and if some layers build up faster than others, that could change the landscape of the moon.
