Is it conceivable that a particular crystal pattern in clay could make it a universal prion? I have never seen this suggested anywhere (it's my own invention), but I don't see any easy way to disprove the hypothesis. Still, without any theoretical or experimental support, this belongs in the far-out department. It did allow a pretty decent story, though...
