  Writing Fantasy for Luna

My essay about writing fantasy for Luna -- and the connection between my dark fantasy-writing self and the romance-publishing establishment -- is up at http://paranormalromanceblog.wordpress.com/

"The Cosa Nostradamus is in disarray; the Truce holding violence in check has been broken. Magical Manhattan is at war, and Wren Valere is left without her partner/lover Sergei, whose past loyalties keep him from her side just when she needs him the most.

Hoping to keep herself occupied, Wren takes a job— but what should have been an ordinary Retrieval instead forces her to realize that it is time to do more. It is time for the Cosa to take the battle to the enemy.

But she'll do it her way. The Retrievers' way. Sneaky, smart—and with maximum damage possible. What was lost will be found, what was stolen will be Retrieved. And this war will be ended, once and for all.

Wren Valere always finishes the job. Always."

About Laura Anne Gilman

Laura Anne GilmanLorn in the late 1960’s in suburban New Jersey, Laura Anne endured only moderately traumatic years there before escaping to Skidmore College for four years of a surprisingly useful Liberal Arts education (Phi Alpha Theta to her own enormous surprise).  Given the choice between grad school and employment, the lure of a paycheck took her to NYC and a career in publishing, starting as an editorial assistant and working nights and weekends to get her writing career started.

After publishing a dozen or so short stories, and several media tie-ins, and clawing her way up to Executive Editor in the day job, she and corporate America decided they needed a break from each other.  Her first original novel contract in-hand, Laura Anne became a full-time freelancer, and never looked back.

She is the author of the Cosa Nostradamus books for Luna (the “Retrievers” and “Paranormal Scene Investigations” series), a YA trilogy for HarperCollins, and the forthcoming Vineart War books from Pocket, while continuing to write and sell short fiction.

She also writes paranormal romances for Nocturne as Anna Leonard, and her e-book novella Dreamcatcher will be available in August 2008.

Laura Anne is also an amateur chef, oenophile, and cat-servant.  She lives in New York City, where she also runs d.y.m.k. productions.
