Welcome!

Lucy at the beachHi, I'm Lucy ... thanks for visiting my little corner of the Web! I'm the author of a trilogy of novels that will be published by Del Rey starting in 2010; the first book is entitled Spellbent. I'm also the author of Sparks and Shadows, which won the 2008 Editors' Choice Black Quill Award for Best Dark Genre Collection. My humor collection Installing Linux on a Dead Badger came out in October 2007, and my poetry collection Chimeric Machines was released in March 2009.

Lucy and GaryI'm a graduate of the Clarion workshop and for several years I've directed the Context Writing Workshops. I write a column for Horror World on science and technology for writers, and I also contribute to Storytellers Unplugged. To date, I've made over 80 short fiction sales, over 50 poetry sales, and I've sold a bunch of nonfiction on topics ranging from faeries to medicinal botany to ethernet switches. (Why the focus on sales?) If you'd like to see my entire list of publications, see my bibliograhy.

If you'd like to read some of my work online or download some free short e-books, visit the Reading Room.

I live in Worthington, Ohio with my husband, Gary A. Braunbeck; we've written several stories together. If you'd like to know more, take a look at my biography or read through some of my interviews.

About My Books

Spellbent Installing Linux on a Dead Badger Chimeric Machines
Sparks and Shadows "Spellbent is a total blast! A fun, unique, and constantly surprising contender for the urban fantasy crown. In her thrilling trial-by-fire debut, Snyder's heroine – Jessie Shimmer – is transformed from young apprentice to first-class magical butt-kicker. I can't wait for book two!"
— Christopher Golden, author of The Myth Hunters

"(Sparks and Shadows) has to be, hands down, the best collection I've read since Joe Hill's 20th Century Ghosts. ... Lucy Snyder means business, people. She is here to kick ass and take names."
Hellnotes

"With smart, well-crafted writing, and humor to tickle readers of varying tastes and genre preference, Lucy A. Snyder could be one of the funniest new writers on the planet."
