Nataly Korpacheva of Tula, Russia, created this portrait of Alec. "I loved these two characters--I mean Seregil and Alec-- from the beginning. Seregil's portrait I could see at the cover of the first and second book, but there was no Alec's face. So I had decided to draw his portrait for myself and my friends. . . . When I began to draw I couldn't clearly imagine all face, but I felt as Alec's gaze was inside of me. A combination of children's naivety and wisdom of grown-up man must be in his eyes. So I draw just his eyes, and later it became easy to draw Alec's face."

An illustration from the SD chapter, "Just a Stag in the Dark." I particularly like the "Russian" background, which is quite different from what I imagined as I wrote it. That scene was inspired by a spot at Schoodic Point, Maine.

Russian reader and artist Nataly Korpacheva has been a frequent contributor to the Gallery, so it seems only fitting that she has sent in the first artwork inspired by The Bone Doll's Twin, out now from Harper Collins UK, and coming from Bantam Spectra, October 2001.
