XX Guidelines
XX Issue 2 Guidelines - A Bitter Brew of Magic
The second issue of XX magazine will focus on the darkly fantastic and will
feature both fiction and poetry. The reading period for issue two will run
from March 15th, 1999, till May 15th. No exceptions or extensions.
Traditional, modern, and even mildly futuristic fantasies are acceptable in
stories and poems, as long as the subject matter or treatment is dark, and
there is some integral supernatural element. Bitterness, chilling suspense,
and unhappy endings are all welcome.
I will be happy to look at traditional night creatures and themes if you have
something new to say about them, or to see what new evils can be created by
the writers' minds.
Please go lightly on the gore, and do not include it for it's own sake. I'd
rather be scared by what I imagine might happen, than see it in all it's
glory. Likewise, adult situations are fine, but only if they play an
important part in the story.
Fiction should be between 600 and 7000 words in length. No reprints or
simultaneous submissions, please.
Poems should be no longer than 60 lines. Modern and traditional poetry are
both acceptable, but rhyming poetry should have a consistent meter, and rhymes
should not be strained or forced. Again, no reprints or simultaneous
submissions. Send a maximum of five poems per submission.
Payment will be 1/4 cent per word (min $5) and 3 copies for fiction, $2
and 1 copy for poetry.
Submissions may be made by email (preferred) or by snail mail. They should
include a cover letter with your name, pen name (if applicable), address,
email address, and word count (fiction), or line count (poetry). A short bio
with credits would also be welcome, but not required.
Email submissions should have "XX Submission" in the subject line, and should
be sent in the body of the email to
marcie_tentchoff@sunshine.net
