CHRISTOPHER MCKITTERICK1964 LINCOLN RESTORATION PROJECT |

AFTER INSTALLING THE engine, I installed another item I would never have purchased were it not that I had time on my hands. So I'm a guy who loves machines, and I'm a guy, and I started surfing classic hot-rod Web sites.... You know what happens next. I accidentally bought myself an original Mercury-Lincoln-Edsel Super Marauder 3x2 intake manifold, and then contacted Charlie Price at Vintage Speed to have him build me a "stock" three-carb setup to give the old girl a bit of extra oomph. He suggested I look around a bit more for an aftermarket unit, instead, because the original Ford carbs can be difficult to find. So I found myself a vintage Edelbrock Tri-Power manifold on eBay and had that shipped to Charlie, who then built me a beautiful setup with three finned aluminum air cleaners and a sexy chrome fuel block. Well, silly me... I just assumed the Edelbrock unit would sit as low as the stocker. Heh. Next, I ordered a nice-looking hood scoop originally designed for the Shelby Cobra -- an appropriate period look, if you can call mounting a scoop on a Lincoln "appropriate"! I suspect this easy-breathing system should up the engine's output some 30 or more horsepower, if the stock 3x2's performance (on Lincolns in 1958) is a good indicator. NOTE: This stock M-E-L (Mercury - Edsel - Lincoln) manifold is for sale! I paid $550 for it, but will accept best offer over $450. I'm going to put it up on eBay if I don't sell it. Write me for more information. |
