History of Karrim

Geography and Climate

This is extremely fertile land, the breadbasket of the continent. Karrim's location adjacent to Dabion places it under Dabion's control.

Agricultural Industry

Since most of the agricultural industry has been controlled by Dabion since about 300, there is little social stratification within Karrim. Strict, long-distance authority has repeatedly given rise to civil unrest. The Great Rebellion of 543 was the most bloody incident of peasant uprising, and Dabion treated these rebels as harshly as they treated the Sivans in the same years.

When Mandera came to the foreground in the late 500s and early 600s, conditions improved in Karrim, mostly due to new technology discovered through the Ikinda Alliance and introduced by Mandera. Dabion enforced laws less strictly, and Mandera had total control over the marketplace, allowing for the rich cultivation of surplus and profits. Dabion still controlled production by keeping records and taxing products before they reached market. Estate Managers were employed by Dabion to keep records, collect taxes, and oversee local law enforcement. Until the 740s, illegal enterprises (theatres, distilleries, brothels) operated throughout Karrim and were largely ignored by the scattered Dabionian authorities. Dabion gained greater control after 742, but other concerns such as the suppression of Nanianism kept Dabion from completely eliminating these activities.
