The Story So Far

Variel Goes to the Bank -- This was a little something that began as an exercise at Forward Motion and took on a life of its own. Enough people have asked for it that I posted it. The first part -- everything up until my return to the bank -- is a true story. The second part is how I wish it had ended.

About "The Blood of Kesh":

For about two years now, I have been working on Elysium. The short story from hell that became a trilogy of the most difficult books I've ever had to write. Don't get me wrong, I love writing them, but it's difficult. The stories are first person, and Mariella Penningham has a very precise, exacting manner of speech. The world is, for the most part, non-magical, and governed by strict sets of rules.

In other words, there is no colouring outside the lines.

"In the Blood" and "Blood Ties", the first two installments of the Kesh stories, began as a dream I had after a marathon anime weekend with my sibling. It is, in essence, an anime I'm writing. It is the anti-Elysium, in that I get to throw all the rules out the window, get as cheesy as I want, play with cliches to my heart's content and not have to worry about sticking to certain rules in order to make it publishable. Yes, it's really derivative of the particular anime that spawned the dream. I'm well aware of that. But it's just different enough that I had to write about it.

Kesh is my playground. I'm allowed to have fun and get dirty. In some ways, it's not like the rest of my writing. There are certainly marked differences beween Kesh and the stuff I submit for publication. But I have a lot of fun writing it. And I hope you'll enjoy reading it.

There are three cycles in the Kesh Saga, and each cycle consists of several short stories. It will be in .pdf format, which I know won't make everyone happy, but it really is the best I can do. I will be posting one story at a time (tentatively every other month to start), and when the next story goes up, the previous story comes down. But don't worry if you miss one -- I'll be posting a summary below, and once each cycle is complete, I'll compile all the stories into an e-book, post it, and leave it up. (There may be issues with bandwidth and stuff, but I'll work it out somehow).

If you would like to illustrate future stories, please drop me a line and let me know. I'd really, really like it if I never had to do this again. Caro is doable, but I have no hope of doing Ayasherin justice. I can't pay you much beyond reimbursement of materials, but you'd get the stories before anybody else sees them. Which doesn't mean much unless you really enjoy the stories, but why illustrate them if you don't really enjoy them.

Cheers!
~Sarah
