The Author Says:

 

While I was researching the Isavalta books, I came across a play, or rather, the story of a play, from the time of the Gupta empire, which was the golden age of the great Hindu empires of India.  It was the tale of two brothers and the struggle for the throne, which involved deception, disguise and the victory of the younger brother.

 

Cheerfully, I lifted and adapted the idea for Isavalta.  The story is alluded to in the other books.  Here, I got the opportunity to tell it in full.
