about the author
I
am a novelist writing under the names S. Andrew Swann,
Steven Krane, and S. A. Swiniarski. I've published 17 novels with DAW
books over the past 14 years. The books have included science
fiction, fantasy, horror and thrillers. My latest novel is
The
Dwarves of Whiskey Island,
a fantasy set in Cleveland, Ohio
published in October 2005. I am currently working on a sequel
to the Hostile
Takeover Trilogy,
an epic space opera.
I've lived and worked in the Greater Cleveland area for all my adult life, and about half of my published work has been set here either in whole or in part. This includes one fantasy series (The Dragons of the Cuyahoga, The Dwarves of Whiskey Island), two vampire novels (Raven, The Flesh, the Blood, and the Fire both now part of the Blood & Rust Omnibus.) and my first novel. (Forests of the Night.)
I am also a member of a local writer's workshop-- the Cajun Sushi Hamsters From Hell-- which has critiqued most of the novels I've written, either whole or in part. The group has been a valuable resource.
Speaking of writing, on this site I've set up an archive of sample chapters and essays, which occasionally includes a few samples in advance of publication. One of the essays is about the origins of my novel, Forests of the Night. I hope the story provides some encouragement to new authors.
I've also joined the 21st Century and started a blog:
