At one time Nate Black had been the notorious hacker Azrael, but he had long since reformed, erasing ever trace that Azrael had ever existed . . . or so he thought.  One day, he begins to receive strange, threatening e-mails from someone who knows about his past.  And when the FBI shows up on his doorstep, his only escape is into a strange black void.

Nate is now trapped in an strange world where he does not speak the language, and all the technology he’s familiar with does not exist.  Instead, the masked scholars of the College of Man wield strange magic and enslave the mute race of pale alien ghadi.  Imprisoned by the College of Man, he is accused of being the feared Angel of Death, destined to bring the end of mankind.
