They began as a joke that grew first  into a masquerade entry with six book covers and two book ends at ConQuesT in 1996. They took the act on the road to conventions in Iowa, Illinois and Oklahoma. Following Best of Show wins at ConQuesT and Concussion and a Special Award for Concept at Archon, the Bimbos were revised and expanded to one cover from each of the last seven decades for the 1997 World Science Fiction Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
 
The Bimbos did raffles and/or parties at Concussion, Soonercon, Contraception and
Archon to benefit the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.
