Proof that he's not THAT small...

The Continuing Story of a Dog and His Illusions of Grandeur...

April 2008. In late 2006, we noticed that Sark's coat seemed to be getting thinner. A visit to the vet revealed to us that Sark is getting bald. Well, not quite, but he does have a condition that leads to loss of coat and darkening of the skin. The amount of hair loss is individual. Some dogs end up looking like Chinese Cresteds! So far, Sark's coat has simply thinned a great deal (as well as turning quite grey as you can see in the picture at right). Otherwise he's healthy as can be.

August 2004. Sark decided to keep us on our toes again. The books all say that folks with floppy-eared dogs should watch the dogs' ears closely lest foreign objects invade. Well, Sark has fine prick ears, but he's very low to the ground. In fact, his ears are right at the level of the lovely seed heads that appeared on the grasses along our morning walk path.

On Monday, he patiently waited until his own vet had gone home to start shaking his head and worrying his ear. Once he started whimpering, we got dressed again and visited his good friend at the emergency vet office.

The grass awn had worked its way deep into his ear and it was a painful retrieval, but the vet said that Sark was very brave (if loud) through the procedure. He also managed to seduce another vet tech who did not want to let go of him when she brought him back to his moms.

At week's end, he was lively and fiesty and attacking Cutter heartily during their bedtime romps.

Sark is 3 months younger than Cutter and half her size, but holds his own in their play. He's quite a lover, and has a haunting howl.

In many ways, Sark is very cat-like. We think this is his first time around as a dog.

Although he'sonly 5.6 pounds, Sark has an adventurous heart.

In the first week of August 2001, he thought he'd try flying, or else was remembering when he was a cat. He jumped off a 5-ft wall...and broke both bones in his left front leg.

In the first week of August 2002, Sark thought he was a mastiff and took on a city-wise raccoon. Despite the blood, he was not seriously injured, although his ego took a hard blow.

Sark took August of 2003 off...or else he stayed out of trouble because we kept him on a very tight leash!
