SG-13's first mission was to P6Y-691, known by the inhabitants as Uruk, which was held by the Goa'uld System Lord Ba'al. An earlier survey by SG-1 found a huge ziggurat just past the Stargate. The inhabitants of the planet near the Stargate were mostly peaceful farmers, but about seven kilometers from the Stargate was a mine that seemed to hold Ba'al's interest. The earlier survey indicated that naquadah was not being mined there. SG-13's mission was to discover, without alerting Ba'al to their presence, what was being mined and why Ba'al was interested in it. Their secondary mission was to explore the ziggurat and its surrounding outbuildings, which are very similar to buildings of the third millennium BCE (Before Common Era) on Earth.
