Quote: "Look deep into the eyes of Countess d'Sangre: surrender to her hypnotic gaze."

Concept: Awakened stage magician

Description: Felicia stands 5' 7" tall (in her stocking feet, 5' 9" in heels) and weighs 138 lbs. She has long dark brown hair and green eyes: her trademark look is a long braided lock of her hair before her left ear strung with silver beads and clear crystals. She also wears a pair of fine silver rings in her left ear.

[Picture]

She has sharp but commanding facial features: a broad forehead; deep-set green eyes underneath arching eyebrows and long, dark eyelashes; flaring cheekbones; an upturned nose with flared nostrils; sensual lips; and a pointed chin and strong jawline. She has an excellent figure, seductively endowed and beguilingly curved. She is in reasonably good physical shape and spends considerable time maintaining it and her figure with light exercise and running.

For her stage magic performances she wears a variation of the traditional stage magician's costume: a black satin jacket and trousers, a white satin blouse with ruffles up the front and at the cuffs, high-heeled black boots, and a collapsible black satin top hat. As Countess d'Sangre she wears a low-cut sleeveless blood-red satin gown cut high up her thighs, long red gloves, gold sandals, a (fake) gold and ruby necklace and earring set, and white makeup to represent the vampiric pallor. Off stage she prefers casual clothing: jeans and T-shirts or sweatshirts of her alma mater, UCLA, preferred, and sneakers. Still she manages to make anything she wears look attractive and fashionable.

Felicia's character is languorously seductive. All quiet slyness and sensual coyness, she never looks directly at anyone unless concentrating on them alone: the overall effect is of some predatory animal covertly examining its next prey. While she is not promiscuous she is not above seducing the occasional partner (she is strictly heterosexual) with her charms or hypnotic skills when she feels the need for a lover.

Prelude: Felicia had a normal childhood and upbringing in one of the suburbs of Los Angeles. It was quite by accident (or perhaps her Avatar nudging her in the right direction) that she became fascinated with stage magicians and stage magic. Her parents approved of her interest, being peripherally involved in the entertainment business themselves (as a movie key-grip and a part time press agent, respectively.) She learned her skills from the best teachers in the area and started her career while still in high school. (She was picked "Most Likely to Succeed" in high school.) She continued her career while a sometime college student, eventually graduating with a BA in Fine Arts from UCLA. She then settled down to a regular series of bookings in and around Los Angeles.

Almost accidentally and quite fortuitously she got the opportunity to try out for the role of Countess Camilla d'Sangre, the hostess of a new late-night horror film program for a local independent TV station. The program proved very successful and the program was eventually syndicated around the country. Part of that success was due to her inspiration and insistence on transferring the role to the stage and playing local college campuses, etc. To further the vampiric aspects of the part, she learned hypnosis and added it to the act.

When the contract was finished, she made arrangements to continue the act and went touring college campuses, her favorite venue. However, she would always return to Los Angeles.

It was there that she discovered, through a friend, the teachings of Dr. Rampal Lomsang. Somewhat an outcast among the Cult of Ecstasy Tradition, Dr. Lomsang was an ascetic individual, more given to introspection and meditation than the more prevalent excesses among the other members of the Tradition. Still, he could drum a mean ritual drum and was sometimes regarded as a confidant among younger Tradition members.

His strong Avatar recognized Felicia's own: they shared a teacher-student relationship through several lifetimes and he was waiting to fulfill their shared destiny again. He Awakened her, told her of their shared history through the ages, and taught her (or reminded her) of the skills and talents she would need for her life ahead.

Soon after Felicia completed her studies, Dr. Lomsang passed to his next incarnation. Felicia led a week-long wake for him in his honor, in which every Cult of Ecstasy member in the area (and several from far away) participated. It was highlighted by a marathon drumming session which was aided by several appreciative Dreamspeakers. Eventually members from every Tradition (and, it was suspected, a few from the Progenitors and Void Engineers of the Technocracy) came to party.

Backgrounds: Her strong Avatar was what eventually led her to her teacher.

Felicia can often use the popularity of the character of Countess d'Sangre to assist her: she has gotten several performances through her connection with the character, as well as some money from a line of popular posters.

Instead of a regular residence in an apartment or home, she lives out of motel rooms and (when necessary) the limited facilities of her van. She does have membership in several regional and national campground associations.

Finally, one night after a performance, Felicia came back to her van to discover Bubastis sitting on the front seat, waiting for her. Bubastis introduced herself as Felicia's familiar, and has been with Felicia ever since. Felicia keeps a catbox in the van (and empties it very regularly) and milk and a collection of canned catfood in the van's small refrigerator.

Foci: All of Felicia's current foci are standard stage magic illusions or hypnotic devices. Because of her awakening Avatar, Felicia no longer requires a foci to work her Time magick.

Possessions: Beat-up large minivan (nicknamed "Houdini" for her ability to pull anything out of its depths on necessity) with a large closet, a small bed, table, kitchen and bathroom arrangement, and storage space for her traveling trunks of illusions; clothing; well-worn trunks with a collection of escape equipment and magic tricks; assortment of stage costumes; collection of advertising posters; electric typewriter; books on hypnosis and the life and illusions of Houdini; collection of dangling crystals, spiraling disks, mirrors, and other hypnotic aids, including a "hypnodisk" given to her by her late mentor.

Merits / Flaws: A gift she always possessed, but only learned to use (in this lifetime) under the tutelage of Dr. Lomsang, was the hypnotic power of her voice. A deep, throaty sound, likened several times to a cat's purr, it is remarkably soothing and compelling. She has integrated it into her use of hypnosis, finding it very helpful to overcome her limited knowledge of the art.

A gift that was always a part of her nature is her sheer animal magnetism. She always had the knack of looking good and acting sensual that drew appreciative men's looks and scorning women's looks to her. It has also made her stage act very popular.

Because of her popularity and her many gifts, and her five years as Countess d'Sangre, Felicia has made for herself a useful reputation in the entertainment industry. She is guaranteed some public notoriety and most people will recognize her name (if prompted with more information such as the name Countess d'Sangre) and she has a number of show-business ties and contacts, which is how she can remain in the business after syndication. Since she still maintains that reputation (through regular performances and press releases) she can draw upon it for small favors and regular gossip, and to sometimes perform actions that would otherwise appear Vulgar (among the right people.)

However, her gifts have a price. Her Avatar is not strictly human, but not strictly animal either. She suspects it might be related to the werecat folk, the Bastet. Because of that dual Avatar and because it is so strong she is cursed with the mark of her Avatar: a certain feline appearance (which even unAwakened individuals comment on, calling her "catty") and mannerisms. She has the habit of leaning forward and cocking her head like an animal when trying to hear faint sounds. In certain moments, the light will briefly reflect from her eyes like a cat's: it is not always noticeable and never seen if actively looked for. She also has an obsessive curiosity and a deep-seated need to protect cats from danger. She is also allergic to dogs (and possibly werewolves, but she has not had the chance to discover that yet).

From somewhere in her past lives she also acquired the Bard's Tongue, and that flaw has remained with her since. Dr. Lomsang was evasive on any information on its origin. It usually takes the form of quotations from Shakespeare or fantasy novels.

Character History: Felicia is similar to my character Morgana Black, a Ventrue vampire who is also a stage magician / hypnotist. This is not an accident. At the Chicago Comic Con, I asked an artist who had done some vampire artwork for White Wolf, to draw for me a picture of Morgana. He dawdled for two days without producing what I had asked for. Instead, he gave me something that he had been working on, which was quite good but not what I had in mind. Instead, I decided to use it to create a new character to test out the Mage character generation rules. Felicia is the result.
