Forward to January of the Year 2002...
My house is so clean, it is unnatural! LOL! And yet it feels wonderful. It is perfectly clean, as a home should be, for the first time in so many years. I feel like I've cleaned up my life too, put it in order on some subtle level.
Last night I dreamed of Frodo or Legolas -- or both -- making elfin love to me. My gawd, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom, if you put the two of them into one, that would be like the perfect man of my type. Chiseled sharp elfin features, refined, in both. Take Legolas's long blond hair, and Frodo's blue eyes. Take their dark brows.... Aaaah. :-) And may the Lord have mercy on me.... *grin*
I have a weird and happy suspicion that there is going to be a revival of true fantasy, for the next 3 years at least. Rather, not a revival so much as a discovery, a deepening. What Harry Potter the book and the movie did for the children audiences, The Lord Of The Rings will do to the adult audiences. Between the two of them, heck, it is a good time to be in the position of writing fantasy!
Happy birthday to my dad! He turned 84 today, and may he have many more!!! :-)
Feeling like a puppet without strings, completely drained of all energy, I've cleaned my house to spotlessness and had a home appraisal done yesterday, for my mortgage refinancing. Yes, I survived the agony of cleaning nonstop for days after work, often till 3:00 or 4:00 AM, and then getting up the next day to make it to my early day job. And now the appraiser will be getting back to me and the bank with the appraisal results, some time next week. I need to get the highest home price possible out of this appraisal, because I am using all my home equity to cancel my horrible credit card debt -- the accumulation of over a decade of tough circumstances.
Now I can collapse. *grin*
Tonight I go see the Lord of the Rings movie, as a reward to myself. :-)
More on that later, and when I am more coherent and a bit better rested.
Before I sign off for tonight, I'd like to leave you with the contents of my new signature file that I use to post in the newsgroups -- with a bow to Oscar Wilde:
Poem of Buying Gaol
Yet each man buys the thing he loves
By each let this be heard,
Some do it with a credit card,
Some with a sweet cash hoard,
The coward with postponement weak,
The brave man with an online order!
Listen, you cheap-ass bastard,
It's hard times for Published Small Fries,
and this is a VERY good novel.
So stop going "uhhh" already and
just BUY my book right NOW!
DREAMS OF THE COMPASS ROSE - ISBN: 1-58715-584-2
Lots of interesting things today....
In the good news department, I sold an article to Speculations. Please look for "Publicity And Self-Promotion Nouveau: Doing It With Class," probably in the next issue (according to editor Susan Lee)! WOOHOO!!! :-)
In the interesting news department, my classic gender-switching story "Beauty And His Beast" showed up on the front page of Fictionwise.com to my complete confusion, since I had never submitted anything to Fictionwise. I e-mailed Fictionwise to ask, and it turns out that they are picking up stories reprinted by Alexandria Digital Literature, and that is what happened in my story's case. I currently have 4 stories up at Alexlit. The Fictionwise people told me that since my story went up this Monday (that's like 3 days!), it has already sold 17 copies. Criminy! If you haven't read this one yet, it is one of my old faves, so you might as well go and check it out. :-)
Meanwhile I am still waiting to see how the pre-ordering system works for my novel DREAMS OF THE COMPASS ROSE. If anyone of you out there has ordered my novel and actually received it, please e-mail me to let me know, okay?
In the NAW news, some fabulous sales have happened -- Toby Buckell sold to Analog and a Tekno anthology edited by Mike Resnick, in the span of two days! Ron Collins also sold to the anthology. WOOHOOO, Toby and Ron!!! You dah men! ;-) Also, Jenn Reese and Tim Pratt sold to Elysian Fiction, and Greg van Eekhout's "Wolves Till the World Goes Down" has been selected for reprint anthology BEST FANTASY OF THE YEAR: 2001, edited by Robert Silverberg, Karen Haber, and Martin Greenberg. WOW! I also want to mention that recently I read Greg's story "Runaway With No Tags" is in Maelstrom Speculative Fiction #8, and I loved it so much that I recommended it for the Nebula Award.
Finally, notice the blinky blue button towards the top of the entry.... right next to the word NEWSFLASH! that says Daily Cartoon.
Yeah, so it's blinky. Normally I hate blinky too. But this one is just too good to pass up. Check it out! It's a really cute service that puts out a new funny Randy Glasbergen 'toon every day, and I think his work is just hilarious. If you're not familiar with it, he's in the same vein as Dilbert. In other words, Office Humor. :-)
So do come back here to see it on a daily basis! Yeah, another reason for you to visit this journal every day -- even on days when I don't update! MUAHAHA!!! My Evil Genius is sublime!
