NEWSFLASH!

Ok, our dear John Savage threatened me with deadly carnivorous chili unless I update my journal, and by golly, the threat worked.

I've been busy as Tartarus, getting ready for Chicon 2000 Worldcon, and in case you are interested, here is my Official Chicon Program Schedule. I had never been placed on so many program items in a single Worldcon, in my life. Believe it or not, I actually had to drop 3 program items! Here it is, after the dropping (ahem):

* * *

2:30-3:45 The Sources of Fantasy: Dreams,
Michael Swanwick, Mary Frances Zambreno (M), Shawna McCarthy, Vera Nazarian, Jody Lynn Nye

FRIDAY:

1:00-2:15 The Sources of Fantasy: Folklore,
Mary Frances Zambreno, Katie Waitman, Josepha Sherman, Vera Nazarian (M), Charles Tritt

5:30-6:45 I'll Buy That For a Dollar: Free Expression and Free Markets,
Teresa Nielsen Hayden (M), Vera Nazarian, Raechel Henderson, Randy A. Dannenfelser, Robert Killheffer

SATURDAY:

Stanley Schmidt (M), Emmett Gard Pittman, Maggie Hogarth, Elizabeth Barrette, Suzanne Alles Blom, Vera Nazarian

5:30-6:45 Luddite Science Fiction,
Alexis Gilliland (M), Stephen Baxter, Jan Lars Jensen, Lyda Morehouse, Vera Nazarian

SUNDAY:

10:00-11:15 Autographing

Also... I may be in the SFWA Musketeer Fencing Program after all!

* * *

Ok, and now the UNOFFICIAL program (grin):

I will have a reading in the SFF Net Suite, time TBA, reading my first story to land on the Preliminary Nebula Ballot, "Rossia Moya," and I will also read a Compass Rose story -- probably the popular favorite "The Miracles Of Ris," that had left some audiences quite spellbound at previous readings.

Next time I will post the list of SFF Net Parties -- watch for it over the weekend, before I leave for Chicago!

Oh, and before I forget, I cut my hair again, so it is even a shorter bob. And... in a fit of madness, I painted my toenails silver.

NEWSFLASH!

Please notice a new permanent feature of my journal -- look to your left and you will see an ENN EcoBytes News Box.

This is a portal to a special live newsfeed, updated daily with the latest breaking environmental news, courtesy of the good people at the Environmental News Network (ENN).

If you have any interest in what's happening right now in the living natural world around us (and unless you are daft, you do, since you are a part of it! *grin*), I urge you strongly to visit the various links that will appear here regularly, and read the ENN breaking news on a daily basis.

NEWSFLASH!

Thanks for voting in my last week's poll, everyone. That does give me some good ideas about solo e-publishing.

Now, I have to make another plug for Bookface.com. As of August, Bookface has premiered the Fantasy Section, and is featuring 3 more of my stories, two of which are available exclusively there, and one is a classic reprint.
[Bookface.com] [Bookface.com]

"Lady Of The Castle" - Introducing a waif, a jester, a wisewoman -- Ruricca NoOnesDaughter. Exclusive to Bookface, this is the first appearance, the adventure that started it all, as Ruricca is faced with the burden of defending a mysterious cursed castle and discovering, in her peculiar way, the truth.

"Absolute Receptiveness, The Princess, And The Pea" - Dark, erotic, and sarcastic, this retelling of a deceptively simple fairytale will remind you, as you invite a stranger in from a rainstorm, that things may not be as they seem.

"A Thing Of Love" - The royal executioner, a woman rumored to have neither a human soul nor a heart, is faced with carrying out the ultimate perverse justice, and yet serving her wicked sister the queen. This tale was originally printed in SWORD AND SORCERESS #7, DAW Books 1990, edited by Marion Zimmer Bradley, and is one of my early "classics."
