NEWSFLASH!
Continued from April -- mom started her chemotherapy treatments on Thursday, May 10th, and went in for the detox hydration the following day (Friday 11th). She had her second set of chemo this past week. Basically she is on a once-a-week chemo schedule, and one detox, so she will be going to the office this way until September. The most recent blood tests say she is doing very well, and her blood is clean.
In the meantime, my own work -- the Norilana Books business, my writing, everything -- had been slowed down because of my mom's medical situation and the intense daily regimen. I already missed most of March and April, and now am only catching up on work and still going at about 1/3 capacity because of the time constraints. Which means my money situation is very difficult right now.
The good news is, I am proud to announce the first original title from YA Angst, the young adult imprint of Norilana Books! The hardcover came out on May 1st, 2007, and it is Senrid by Sherwood Smith, a Sartorias-deles novel, written when Sherwood was only fifteen! Get your copy now!
On the writing front, my collection Salt of the Air has received a wonderful review in the July 2007 issue of Asimov's, in the "On Books" column written by Paul Di Filippo. My huge thanks go out to Paul for the great review!
Whlle mom was in the middle of the hospitalization and I was mostly offline, the talented and brilliant Anna Tambour wrote a fascinating blog entry, Do English-as-a-second-language writers (and speakers) have more fun?. Be sure to check it out! And take a look at the rest of Medlar Comfits which is just an amazing blog for its loving dedication to detail, almost mystical photography, and exotic naturalist themes.
Also, the DAW anthology Heroes in Training edited by Martin H. Greenberg and Jim C. Hines is available for pre-order. At some point over last month I received the galleys for it, for my new Compass Rose story "Three Names of the Hidden God" and proofed and returned them to DAW. The anthology TOC includes stories from such amazing writers as Sherwood Smith, Esther Friesner, Peter David, and Julie E. Czerneda among others.
Meanwhile, Norilana Books now has 76 titles in print. :-)
Now I hope to pick up the pace and get back to work....
Finally, belated happy birthday wishes to West Flanagan, Catherynne M. Valente, Ron Collins, and Lisa Silverthorne! :-)
