This weekend, I started work on a second fantasy novel, tentatively called Ruricca NoOnesDaughter, about a poor waif and traveling jester who is more than she seems. This may be a stand-alone novel, but very likely it's the first of a series. I expect it to be approximately 90,000 words long (360 manuscript pages), and I am engaging in an insane thing called a Novel Dare, to complete this novel before this year's Worldcon (which gives me less than 2 months). I am setting aside my first novel revisions to do this manic deed first....

Every Tuesday night, starting from 7:00 pm Pacific Time (10:00 pm Eastern) and till the wee hours, I host "Maniac's Night" CHAT on the SFF Net CHAT server. Come on down and blab with me and tons of other writer folks who hang out on SFF Net! Use your own telnet client or download the CHATTER program from SFF Net. Set your CHAT client to CHAT.SFF.NET and select Port 9508. Click here for more info on CHAT.

I sold a short story "Shimmering Scythe" To SWORD AND SORCERESS XV, DAW Books, edited by Marion Zimmer Bradley. The anthology will be available in the spring of 1998. Want to read a little excerpt? You can place your order early!

My fantasy novelette "the Slaying of Winter" will be in the anthology DIMENSIONS OF MADNESS, due to be published in February 1998 by Avesta Blues Publishing (formerly known as Angelus Press).

I finished the rough draft of my fantasy novel LORDS OF RAINBOW, OR THE BOOK OF FULFILLMENT, at 1:30 am last night (Christmas), actually meeting my own personal deadline!!! The draft is 21 chapters, and 671 pages long, which comes out to about 167,750 words. I still need to re-write chapters 1-8, and I have to cut this to fit under 600 manuscript pages or 150,000 words. This is a wordlength maximum for a first novel at most publishing houses.

The novel is almost done! I am on the last chapter... Will keep you posted. My goal is a personal deadline of Christmas, then about 2 weeks of revision, which might take me into early January 1997.

As of 12-10-96, I now have my own Newsgroup on SFF Net! Please dive in and tell me something funny, wise, or wonderful! I promise to check it regularly...

Well, I am madly trying to finish my fantasy novel LORDS OF RAINBOW, OR THE BOOK OF FULFILLMENT, while at the same time do all the other things in my life....

"Such AS???" you might ask. Well, such as:
