Einstein's desk, not mine.

(Mine is less organized...)

My readers are a curious lot (in every sense of the word).  It seems they are forever curious about so many different things, including my workspace, work habits (got to get some of those someday), and the process behind the stories.  I understand as the same things fascinate me about other writers and I like to see what we have in common and how we work the process in so many different ways.

When I was first starting out I thought that there was a commonality to all successful writers and that I would benefit from seeing what others did right.  There are, in fact, a few consistencies but they are few and, by no means, universal or iron-clad.  I elaborate on this elsewhere but my point is everyone has their own way of working the process and you can make someone else's bad habits your own by blindly emulating them.  Every writer has their own voice, style, and methods and the real lesson is to learn what works for you.  Seeing how and where others create reminds me that we all have much in common and reassures me that we are all unique and different.

This page serves a double purpose.

Hopefully it will answer some of the questions that many of you have asked (and continue to ask) over the years.

And, after a series of computer changes and a couple of cross country relocations, I'm hoping that this virtual workspace will help me keep my physical workspace in better order.  I've already found several "lost" projects through this process.

SETI@home is a scientific experiment that uses Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data.  To learn more, go to the SETI@home website by clicking on the animated banner below.

I've been a member of the SETI@home Project since July 9,1999.  As of March 15, 2005 I had racked up 1,809 work units and 40,698 hours of CPU time.  The "classic" incarnation of SETI@home was phased out in late 2005 and I eventually joined up with its current incarnation, SETI@home/BOINC.

Join me in the search for intelligent life in the universe.

Here's where I keep some of the loose files...

Adjacent to my desk is a virtual workspace I call The Bull~pen
