Awards

James Stoddard's first novel, The High House won the 1999 Compton Crook Award for best SF/Fantasy novel by a new author. It was awarded second place as Year's Best Fantasy by the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts. It placed in the Locus Top Ten for bestSF/Fantasy book of the year, and was named one of five finalists for the Mythopoeic Award, an award given to works that best reflect the writing spirit of C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and J.R.R. Tolkien.

His short story The Battle of York appeared in Tor Books' Year's Best SF 10 in 2005.

His short story The First Editions appeared in Tor Books' Year's Best Fantasy 9 in 2009.

His daughter awarded him #1 Dance Partner when she was twelve.  He still has the ribbon.
